Stringent US & UK immigration laws and Brexit helped this leading premier Australian University with multifold increase in Asian student intake. However, It threw challenges of building engaged corporate relationships in Asia for generating opportunities for their students & alumni.

EduShine assisted the university in its global strategy to build engaged corporate relations by searching Asia Head Corporate Relations.

The Institution

The client institution is a globally ranked Australian University. The university is a young university and has been consistently ranked among top 50 universities in the world with less than 50 years of age.

The university has more than 50000 students and 4000+ staff at 4 campuses in Australia. The university is known for it’s cultural diversity with students coming from more than 120 countries.

The university has long standing relationship with Asian countries.

Search Objective

The objective of conducting the search for Asia Head – Corporate Engagements is to identify dynamic professional who can build engaged relationship with the large corporate houses and non-government organisations.

The position is focused on supporting university graduates and helping current students connect with internship and employment opportunities in South Asia (Indian Sub-continent), South East Asia and Middle East. The role also includes generation of new employment opportunities for the university alumni.

The position works as an evangelist for career opportunities in the region.

The position has dual reporting, functional reporting to Head – Corporate Engagements at Australia & operational reporting to Director – South Asia.

Search Strategy

Being the first position for corporate engagement function by globally ranked university, this was a challenging assignment.

Challenges in this search assignment:
– Geographical spread of the position
– Lack of clarity about the future prospects of the position

EduShine to focus on the context of the position and started mapping of educational institutions and HR services firms. We identified 30 target organisations having premium service / product and global customer base. These organisations included educational institutions, HR consulting firms, job portals, leadership training firms and assessment firms. We created long list of about 40 candidates and initiated a conversation to understand their interest for the position. Based on candidate interest level and EduShine’s rigorous assessment, 7 candidates are shortlist for initiating selection process by the client university.

The university selection process was of 6 rounds of interview meetings and leadership assessment test. EduShine conducted detailed reference check and also assisted university in compensation negotiation.

The Outcome

The selected candidate is having global qualifications and more than 15 years of experience in corporate relations and business development for HR consulting services and educational institution. In the recent employment, the candidate was associated with Asia regional campus of globally ranked university. She has the maturity, knowledge and personality to represent top ranked university to the CxOs of large corporate houses.
